Peninsula Food Runners is a volunteer organization dedicated to alleviating hunger in the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Our goal is to reduce food insecurities and food waste by diverting edible surplus food to those who are in need.
Peninsula Food Runners provides a free service to pick up excess perishable and prepared food from restaurants, caterers, bakeries, wholesalers, event planners, corporate cafeterias, farmer market vendors, and hotels. Our dedicated volunteers pick up food from these businesses and deliver directly to shelters, neighborhood feeding programs and 100% affordable housing. Presently Peninsula Food Runners is delivering 30,000 meals a week to families and individuals in need.

How It Works
Powered by the application Chow Match, donors can submit an online food pickup request. The application makes an automated match within seconds between recipient and donor based on a set of criteria such as location, facility capabilities, food type and hours of operation. After the match, an auto-generated email message and text message is sent to our pool of volunteers. The first available runner gets assigned and completes the food run. The total food run is usually completed within an hour.
