Peninsula Food Runners, located in San Francisco, CA is being funded in part by CalRecycle’s Food Waste Prevention and Rescue Grant Program , a subset of California Climate Investments. CalRecycle funds paid for Cold Storage, Vehicles, and Salary expenses for the Food Rescue Program in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. California Climate Investments is a statewide program that puts billions of cap-and-trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy and improving public health and the environment— particularly in disadvantaged communities. The Cap-and-Trade program also creates a financial incentive for industries to invest in clean technologies and develop innovative ways to reduce pollution.
